What is BarnTemp?

BarnTemp is a community-driven site where hockey parents rate how cold the stands are at ice rinks across the USA and Canada. We use a 1-5 snowflake scale.

How does the rating system work?

Users rate rinks on a 1-5 snowflake scale: 1 (Melter) to 5 (Absolute Barn). The score shown is the average of all user ratings.

Is it free?

Yes! BarnTemp is completely free to use. Create an account to rate rinks, leave comments, and track your barn visits.

How do I add a rink that's not listed?

Click 'Barn Missing?' in the nav and fill out the form. A real human reviews every submission before it goes live.

What does 'Absolute Barn' mean?

It's our top cold rating (5 snowflakes). It means the rink is brutally cold — bring your heaviest gear. These are the barns hockey culture celebrates.

Can I rate anonymously?

Yes! Toggle the anonymous switch when submitting your rating. Your email won't be shown on the comment.

How many rinks can I rate per day?

You can rate up to 3 rinks per day. This prevents spam and keeps ratings authentic.

What is a Verified Visit?

If you rate a rink while physically near it (detected via geolocation), your rating gets a Verified Visit badge.

How do the barn tiers work?

As you rate more rinks, you earn tiers: First Timer (1), Regular (10), Rink Rat (25), Road Warrior (50), Tournament Dad (100), Barn Legend (250), Hall of Famer (500).

I found incorrect information about a rink. How do I fix it?

Report it by rating the rink and leaving a comment about the error. Our admin team reviews feedback regularly.
